Signals from the Commodore | Kathy Fedick

Last Saturday was a fun filled day of entertainment at PYC. Race in the AM, sailor games in the PM followed by a fun evening with delicious food and Tacky Light night. Thank you to everyone that added the lights to their boats. The harbor looked so pretty.✨ Thanks Kevin and Emily!!

Welcome to September!!

It’s hard to believe how quickly the boating season flies by. Fortunately, we have a long holiday weekend ahead — a perfect chance to relax, sail, or power and enjoy time on the water. ⛵🚤

Join us for First Friday on September 4th at the club. With any luck, we’ll have a beautiful evening for a bonfire by the lake. 🏕️🔥

On Saturday, September 19th, the Pultneyville Hamlet Community Garage Sales begin at 9 AM — always a fun day around town.🏷️🛍️🚶

On Saturday, September 26th, we’ll hold our General Membership Meeting, followed by an event afterward. We’re also hoping to run the Commodore’s Challenge this month against PMI Commodore Pete Stubler. More details will be shared soon.

A quick reminder: if you haven’t signed up and paid for Haul, please send your payment and any late fees to PYC Treasurer Leslie Phillips as soon as possible.

Thank you to Eric Anderson and his friend Jerry for adding the Viking Ship sign to the pavilion. 🏠

Viking Ship Sign on the Pavilion

Please see Jerry’s write up below for what it represents.

This Viking inspired boat was created to represent journey, courage, and the paths we travel through life. The serpent and flowing knotwork symbolize movement, survival, and the interconnected nature of life. A path that twists and turns but always continues forward. The runes Raidō (ᚱ), representing the journey, and Sól (ᛋ), representing the sun, come together to express the heart of the piece: “Journey Under the Sun.” Like the knotwork itself, life rarely follows a straight path. The boat represents embracing those turns, finding the strength to keep moving forward, and enjoying the journey beneath the sun.

Happy Labor Day!! Come out and enjoy our beautiful club……….Kathy

DOCKSIDE DISPATCHES from the Rear Commodore | BEN YAGER

Happy September PYC Crew!

It is hard to believe we are already starting to talk about the end of the boating season, but fall haul is right around the corner.

There are three important dates to get on your calendar:

  • Saturday, October 3-Cradle Day
  • Friday, October 9- Haul Day # 1
  • Saturday, October 10- Haul Day # 2

Please note that Cradle Day is Saturday, October 3. An earlier Haul/Launch invoice incorrectly listed it as October 4.

If you are hauling your boat at PYC this year, now is a good time to start getting yourself and your boat prepared. Before haul, please make sure you know where the lifting slings need to be positioned on your boat and clearly mark those locations. Boats should also have fore and aft tag lines available, approximately 30 feet long. If a sling could interfere with or damage a knot-meter transducer, plan to remove the transducer and install the plug before haul.

We will send out the final haul schedule, crew assignments, and complete instructions as we get closer to October. Please review those carefully when they arrive and plan on being available for your entire assigned shift. Haul is a big operation, and it takes everyone working together to keep things moving safely and efficiently.

There is still plenty of sailing left, so enjoy September and we will see everyone around the club!…….Ben

Marks on the Line from the Fleet Captain | Kevin Yager

August is wrapping up as I write this. The 50-mile race did not happen; we cancelled it due to lack of participation. The Double-Handed race moved to Saturday, August 22 and ran with Sailor Games and Party on the Peninsula. Scotch Bonnet Light Race is August 28. Comic Cup is Saturday, August 29, skippers’ meeting at 10. My, how time flies when you’re having fun!

We’ve had a little bit of everything impacting racing so far this year. Too much smoke one night. Too much wind. A couple of bad stormy days. We were becalmed at the start, twice I think. And we abandoned one race due to lightning. I had to think hard to remember all of that, because mostly I had a lot of fun.

We’ve had some glorious races. Last night, August 27, was a great time — mild weather, enough wind to sail well, and a great sunset to boot. If you haven’t come out with us for a race, you should. Don’t stress about it if you’ve never raced. Tune to channel 71.🔊 Watch what everyone else is doing and just follow along behind. Soon enough you’ll be thinking about being out front.

Sailor Games and Party on the Peninsula was a fun time as well. ⚓🎉 I’m sorry if you missed it. We had three official games. The Heaving Line Rescue Challenge evolved a little from how I described it in my email, but it turned out to be fun enough. Family Ties (Mike Thurston) won it with 9 out of a possible 9 points. The Blindfolded Knot Challenge was dominated by Resurgence (Ben Yager), who tied a cleat hitch in 2.66 seconds and a bowline in 6.5 seconds. The Jury Rigging Game was won by Neil (Pond Hawk), who stepped the mast in 2 minutes 39 seconds. The pulled pork sammies were delicious. Thanks to Emily and everyone else who helped put the day together. Fun times!

🙌 Thanks to everyone who raced this summer and to the people who ran committee.

Jury Rigging Game Winner…. Neil (Pond Hawk)

📋Coming Up:

  • Thursday, Sept. 3 — End of Summer Series/Fleet Captain’s Picnic. All are welcome, not just racers. Let me know how many you are bringing, so we can plan food. Bring a dish to pass.🍛🥗
  • Saturday, Sept. 5 — Bown Race, skippers’ meeting @ 10AM. ⛵ PYC 0-mark to Sodus Point Lighthouse and back. This is one of the older club races; family crew is welcome.
  • Saturday, Sept. 12 — Pumpkin Series. 🎃Watch email and the race calendar for confirmation.

If you need crew, want to try committee boat, or have an idea for the Pumpkin Series, email or text me. Not many nice days left this year. Make them count. See you on the lake.

Ledger Lines from the Treasurer | Leslie Phillips

Haul is coming. 🏗️ A few people have not paid their Haul/Launch/Store fee or have not contacted me about their need for these services. Those who still owe are now subject to the 10% late fee. If your Haul payment is not received, your boat will not be hauled by PYC, no exceptions. You’ll be on your own to get your boat out of the water.

Furthermore, a couple of people still owe dock fees or summer storage fees. Members not in good standing as of September 15 forfeit their haul and store privileges.

📌 Reminder: for official Treasurer email please use  account or the link on the PYC website, and for snail mail including payments please use the PYC P.O. Box 137, Pultneyville, NY 14538.
