Signals from the Commodore | Kathy Fedick
Welcome to May!! Very excited our Launch Day is finally here, the day we have all been waiting for. Let’s hope the weather continues to warm up quickly. We definitely have water, it’s just under 247ft. Hoping the Spring rainy season comes to an end. Thanks to everyone that showed up for the Fleet Captain workday. The Club is starting to look good.
The Executive Committee went through the calendar of Events/Workdays/Races/Meetings, looks like a busy fun season ahead. 🎉⛵️
Please mark your calendars for the upcoming First Friday Happy Hours 🍻, PYC May events 🌼, and our May workdays 🛠️. All membership levels (except non-voting) are required to fulfill their workdays. Please reach out to Rear Commodore Ben Yager📩, if the scheduled workdays don’t work out for you. There are many projects that need to be completed to get the Club ready for the season!
Looking forward to warmer days ahead. See you at the Club.⚓

Flares from the Vice Commodore | Emily Wilczewski
🍹⏰ First Friday Happy Hour is May 1st— join us at 6:30pm 🍻🍷
📍 Pultneyville Yacht Club. BYOB + bring a snack to share. See you there!
For those of you that are bringing food for Launch Saturday May 2nd this would be a great time to drop off!
📣 I am still looking for a few more people to help with food for Launch. We don’t want our hard-working crew to have to worry about keeping up their energy while getting all our boats in the water. Please jump in to provide them with some breakfast and lunch so they are able to focus on the boats!
We raised $50 last weekend! Woohoo! We are on our way to getting a nice nest egg set up for our summer membership meeting, where we are planning a cookout!
Thanks for all your help!
DOCKSIDE DISPATCHES from the Rear Commodore | BEN YAGER
🔔 Launch this year is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd! ⚓
Happy May, PYC Crew!
April was a busy and productive month! Thank you to everyone who came out for the Fleet Captain Workday on April 18th–it was a great success and a huge help getting the Club ready for the season. 🛠️⛵
🌿📋 We also had a very successful Club Grounds Walkaround on April 11th. We walked the entire property and created a long, detailed task list to prepare for the upcoming Workdays.🛠️
The water is on. Spectrum WiFi and garbage pickup will both restart on May 1st
Here are the key dates to mark on your calendars:
- May 2 – Launch Day 🚤 The crane will arrive the night before, and we’ll need plenty of hands to help with trailers, cradles, and all the final preparations.
- May 16 – Club Work Day #1 (Last names starting A–H) 🧹
- May 30 – Club Work Day #2 (Last names starting I–Z) 🛠️
These Club Work Days are important opportunities for all of us to pitch in and get the clubhouse, docks, grounds, and facilities ready for the summer season.
Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions, suggestions, or concerns about the club grounds, docks, work days, or any facilities issues.
WELCOME ABOARD WAVES FROM THE Membership CHAIR | Cathy MacDonald
🌸 Welcome to Spring!
Now that your boat is floating nicely and you are ready to enjoy the 2026 season, I am pleased to announce we have 3 new Voting Memberships. They are:
John & Nancy Wiesenthal who have recently acquired their 32′ Mariner ketch. They are looking forward to being members of PYC.⚓🚤
Robert & Zoie Slifkin. The Slifkins have a 45′ Crist Craft that is and will be docked in Rochester.
Robert & Janet Leiby who have been PYC members in the past & are looking forward to rejoining and seeing other members once again. Their boat is a 1993 30′ Hunter, Amazing Grace, that will be docked in Sodus.
Let’s give a warm welcome to the newest members of PYC 🌟🎉.
📣Please don’t miss an opportunity to bring additional members to PYC! You can find the PYC flier below by clicking the link. We need your assistance in this! Please distribute and place as you feel appropriate.

Marks on the Line from the Fleet Captain | Kevin Yager
We had great weather for the Fleet Captain Workday. About 22 of us kep fairly busy so we were able to check everything of the list by about 11:30am except launching the committee boat. All the buoys and marks are out. We deployed a new zero mark and a new orange race pin. The floating docks are all in the water.
Launch is coming up fast. The club calenda should be updated on the website soon. Click here Load PYC Races into your Google Calendar.
Upcoming Race Events:
- May 17 – Tune-up race, Sunday. Skippers meeting at 10am ⚓
- May 21 – Thursday Night Spring Series begins ⛵
- May 25 – Bowersox Race, Memorial Day, May 25th, Skippers meeting at 10am ⚓
- June 13 – Burning of the Socks Bonfire 🔥
The Burning of the Socks will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 9:00 PM.
For those of you who made the Cups and Flags Banquet last Fall, you may recall a story I told about how the people of Ivrea, Italy keep their traditions alive by having fun and including their families and kids in the festivities. Be sure to bring your family to the Bonfire to burn their socks and make their resolutions. After a busy day of PYC activities, the evening events will include Summer and sailing resolutions for 2026, a poem recital, shanty singing, S’mores, and other skylarking.🤪 Bring your guitar.
We are looking for volunteers for the Race Committee! ⛵️🔥
If you or someone you know is interested in helping out on the Race Committee Boat, let me know. It’s a great way to be part of the action and support the fleet. After the race, burgers 🍔 and drinks 🍻 are on me.
And of course, be sure to come out for the Work Days!
Thank you for coming and getting us ready for the season! Fleet Captain Workday’s Pictures below

Depth lines from the Dredging Master | EARL CHAPMAN
No surprise that with all the rain this spring—we’ve go water to spare. The lake is at 246.95ft, which sounds impressive but is about as useful as saying the “the Bills scored 7” without the other team’s score.
What matters is the gap to the harbor bottom. When we closed down dredging last year, the bottom averaged 238.6 ft, nominally that would give us just over 8 feet of depth. That’s about 2 ft higher than last haul-out and 16+ inches better than last launch—so overall, we’re in pretty good shape. There are always a few shallow spots, be we did a cursory check of the usual suspects last week, and they had 6+ ft of water.
Lake levels typically rise into July, so more water is coming—though the “official forecast” is more of a suggestion than a guarantee. Unless something really weird happens though, like a beautiful, sunny, dry summer, we’ll have plenty of depth through the season…one can only hope.

The wildcard is the change in the bottom depth. We usually get 6–9 inches of accumulation over the winter, but we won’t know for sure until we get a full set of soundings.
So…dredging this year? Hard to say, just yet 😊. A year off sounds great, and we probably could, but if we skip and then get a dry spring after two winters of accumulation, we could go from “plenty of water” to “who’s stuck?” in a hurry…and then need 2X the labor to recover. The lake “top level” gets the headlines, but the harbor “bottom level” is what drives the long-term plan, so I’m guessing we’ll be dredging, but will get a plan together and communicate it over the next month or so.
Ledger Lines from the Treasurer | Leslie Phillips
With the season starting up, we will have more expenditures for repair, maintenance and social events. If reimbursement from PYC is needed, please remember to get a receipt. If I don’t receive a receipt to document the purchase, you may not be reimbursed.
Occasionally, checks are still being sent to the address Garland preferred to use when she was Treasurer. If you pay your PYC bills using your bank ‘s bill payer, please make sure the details are updated to:
