Signals from the Commodore | Kathy Fedick

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year. Welcome to 2026!! In 121 days, the boats will be back in the water. Launch is Saturday May 2nd!! Mark your calendars. The 2026 Executive Committee will start getting the calendar of events/races/workdays together. Please welcome Emily Wilczewski as Vice Commodore and Ben Yager as Rear Commodore, Leslie Phillips as Treasurer and Carl Webeck as our new PYC Dockmaster and Garland Nichols as our Soundings Editor.

✨ A huge thank‑you to our outgoing Executive Committee members — Vice Commodore Pat Sangster, Rear Commodore John Garlock, Treasurer Garland Nichols, and Dockmaster Greg Fitzpatrick — for all their hard work and dedication. 🙌⚓💙

The PYC membership is what makes the club the great place it is. Special thanks go out to the many club members and special committee members who contribute above and beyond the required workdays to help keep the club running smooth.

🤗🏘️💙 Special thanks to those that brought the donation items for the Open-Door Mission, they were grateful for the donations.

Looking forward to another successful boating season at PYC with plenty of wind and water.

Flares from the Vice Commodore | Emily Wilczewski

Hello! I’m excited to be your new Vice Commodore this year! For those of you that don’t know me yet, my partner Matt Reese and I have been full members for a few years now and were crewing for races for a few years before that! So while we’ve been around for a handful of years it’s only the last few that we’ve really begun to take full advantage of all the fun that PYC has to offer.

I come into this role with ideas of getting a calendar set up in the clubhouse that shows the major months of the summer filled out with the summer’s activities, so we don’t always have to check our emails or the website to get information on what events are upcoming, especially for those of us looking to unplug. So please make sure to keep an eye out for that when using the clubhouse this summer!

🎉I love a party, so please feel free to reach out with any party ideas you may have! I have access to a ridiculous amount of party nonsense and the inability to believe I cannot pull anything off. My personal motto? “How hard can it actually be?” It’s true, ask Matt. I put a car sized dragon on our roof once.

🎉 Jan. 2nd is our FIRST First Friday Happy Hour of 2026 — join us at 6:30pm at Shamrock Jack’s in Irondequoit! 🍀🍻

📣 If you’ve got ideas for where the next First Friday Happy Hour should be, let me know — it might end up in your neighborhood!

DOCKSIDE DISPATCHES from the Rear Commodore | John Garlock

Happy Holiday Everyone!

While our newlywed son and daughter-in-law just spent 2 weeks cruising the Everglades, Keys and Dry Tortugas 546 nautical miles, 185 gallons of fuel, 6 reef dives, 2 shipwrecks and 3 snorkeling sites, it’s been very cold and windy here in Pultneyville, you may want to check your tarps and line.

It has been a pleasure serving as the 2025 Rear Commodore! Please join me in welcoming Ben Yager as the 2026 Rear Commodore. Please give some thought on how you will be able to support Ben this year, it’s our club! These are just a few of the tasks and people who support the Rear Commodore: There are workdays, dock projects, Capital improvement projects, the list goes on in ways to support.

🛠️ Help Needed for Gin Pole Prep

Bill Wayman is looking for 2 people to help him scrape and paint the gin pole that lays ready. This repair and fresh coat of paint will ensure the crane can put it back into proper working order on launch day. Please contact Bill if you can help!

🔔 Launch this year is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd! ⚓

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS | Key Bylaws & Policies to Know

As part of our commitment to keeping our club strong and welcoming, here are a few important bylaws every member should keep in mind:

  • Work Days: PYC is a working club, and many hands make light work.  It is expected each membership unit participate in designated workdays or make other arrangements with the Rear Commodore during the season. (Article II of Bylaws).  Failure to participate will result in a fine of $200.  However, we strongly encourage our members to support the Club by helping during designated workdays. Your time and involvement are far more valuable to us than any fine.
  • Membership : Membership annual dues are due Jan 19, of every year.  10% late fine is added to bills past due.
  • Parking:  Member is allowed to park one vehicle in front of or near member’s dock if sufficient space is available. Vehicles belonging to crew or guests of members must be parked in designated parking areas (not in front of or near the member’s dock or other docks) such as at the clubhouse.
  • Docks: Voting Memberships are the only membership unit allowed to pay and reserve a Dock.  All Boats must provide evidence of active boat and marine insurance for their boat.
  • Pets at PYC: Pets of members and guest are permitted on Club grounds but must be leashed and under the control of the pet’s owner at all times while on the grounds. Pets are not permitted in the Clubhouse at any time.
  • Utility usage:  Use of utilities of power or water during the boating season is allowed solely to those who have been assigned to a dock and paid dock fee. Any other use of the PYC dock utilities is prohibited. No member or person shall use excessive utilities as determined by EC; otherwise, excessive usage charges will be enforced.

Full details and language can be found in the annual logbook or on PYC members-only part of the website. Thank you for being a part of PYC!
